Referred to as Canada’s “Diamond in the Wilderness”, Lake Louise is one of Canada’s most popular tourist attractions and is a featured destination on Caravan’s all inclusive Canadian Rockies Tours from Calgary, Alberta.
With turquoise colored waters, expansive glacier peaks of Mount Victoria and the breathtaking Fairmont Chateau hotel, glacier Lake Louise is a can’t miss destination on a tour that includes Glacier Park, Lake Louise, Banff and Jasper, Alberta.
Let Caravan Tours reveal Lake Louise Alberta, Canada to you and your travel companions, in all its grandeur.
Call 1-800-CARAVAN (227-2826)
In less than a 2 hours drive from Calgary we arrive at Lake Louise, an alpine resort and village located on the valley floor in the dramatic mountain setting of Banff National Park in the Canadian Rockies. Lake Louise is only 35 miles down the Trans-Canada Highway west of Banff, which is a 45-minute drive from your hotel accommodations in Banff.
When first exiting the highway you will see the quaint Lake Louise shopping center to your left and the ski area at Lake Louise Mountain Resort to your right.
The actual lake itself is just 3 miles up the mountain from the resort village of Lake Louise. It is an incredibly beautiful, glacier fed, mountainous lake and perhaps the best known, and most admired lake in all of Banff National Park.
The turquoise colored (blue-green) water of Lake Louise consists mostly of melt water from Victoria Glacier on Mount Victoria. This magnificent snow-covered peak at the end of Lake Louise is named after the former Queen of England and Lake Louise itself was subsequently named after one of Queen Victoria's five daughters.
Lake Louise weather during summer months averages in the mid 60’s. Mornings typically start of frosty and gradually warm to a crisp, cool day. In the winter months temperatures can dip as low as -63° F with up to 10 feet of snowfall.
If you are lucky you may see some Lake Louise wildlife from a distance including cougars, elk, mountain goats, bighorn sheep plus more than 250 bird species including the gray jay. With snow packed glacier peaks surrounding Lake Louise, wildlife is forced to venture down to lower elevations for food. Black bears and grizzly bears also live around Lake Louise and should only be observed at a safe distance.
Along the lake shore’s edge you’ll get close to Lake Louise’s friendlier wildlife including golden-mantled ground squirrels, chipmunks, Clark’s nutcrackers and gray jays.
At first arrival on your leisurely morning visit to glacier Lake Louise you’ll notice the beautiful Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise hotel, which stands proudly at the lake water’s edge.
Stroll through the delightful grassy courtyard and gardens of Fairmont Lake Louise or meander through the excitingly Canadian hotel lobby. As a landmark and destination for over 100 years, Fairmont Chateau is recognized for responsible tourism and environmental stewardship.
From Chateau Lake Louise, take a walk around Lake Louise along the Lakeshore Trail footpath. With ever-changing views of peaks of the Victoria Glacier and a wide flat trail, this walk will get you away from the crowds and give you a taste of why Lake Louise is named “Hiking Capital of Canada”.

“This is my second tour with Caravan Tours and the second was just as good as the first. There was not as much red in Canada as there was on the Grand Canyon tour, but then again the height and beauty of the Canadian Rockies is a whole different world. It was hard to compare the two. Both had their own beauty. ”Mr. & Mrs. G.H., Portsmouth, Rhode Island

“Well done, fun-filled active tour.”Mr. J.K., Baltimore, Maryland
“It is very apparent that Caravan took the time to select some of the better hotels for customers to stay for the duration of the tour. Based on a fixed budget and negotiated prices, I believe Caravan did a stellar job in selecting the venues. As this was the primary intent of the tour, the Canadian Rockies and Glacier National far exceeded my expectations as far as their grandeur and beauty. Again, I believe Caravan made a significant effort in selecting those locations and activities with care to make the sightseeing of this part of North America amazing. As this was our first guided tour, we have no way of comparison, but Caravan has left a great impression on both my wife and me. Caravan exceeded my expectations throughout this great trip.”Mr. & Mrs. J.K., Lewisville, Texas These are only the first 25 reviews of this tour... Read all 154 Reviews »
Caravan Tours began selling fully escorted tours in 1952. We have been under the same management and ownership ever since. In 1965, Roger Mudd hosted a two hour CBS TV special on Caravan Tours. This TV production took about one month to make and was so successful it inspired the 1968 romantic comedy movie “If it’s Tuesday this must be Belgium.” In the early 50’s the Mayor of Dublin presented Caravan with the Key to Dublin for bringing the first American tour to the city after WWII. Since then Caravan has been recognized as a pioneer in travel.
Caravan’s strong buying power gives you great vacations at prices much lower than you can find anywhere. Last year many of our tours sold out quickly. Book early for the date you prefer and the best air fare.
Caravan Tours is a member of ASTA (American Society of Travel Agents), NTA (National Tour Association), CLIA (Cruise Lines International Association), and an allied member of ACTA (Alliance of Canadian Travel Agencies).
Caravan delivers volume to our suppliers, who in turn reward us with their very best prices, we in turn pass these savings on to you, and you reward us by buying our tours. As volume continues to rise, we then receive even better prices from our suppliers, and we pass even greater savings on to you. This year our tours are better than ever.
The short answer is “very.” Our surveys are uniformly very positive. However we continually strive to improve our tours, (they are often updated several times in the course of one year), we study all client surveys and suggestions for improvement very carefully.
Caravan includes all activities listed in the tour itinerary page. Caravan does not sell any optional activities which can add hundreds of dollars to your tour price. Your free time is scheduled in great settings where there is no need to buy additional expensive activities.
