Caravan Costa Rica Tourism Packages are All Inclusive

The ideal vacation is what Caravan Tours offers with our fully guided, all inclusive Costa Rica tourism packages to a place that many refer to as the "Jewel of Central America."

Thankfully, Costa Rica has made the preservation of its natural heritage a top priority mainly because Costa Rica is home to an impressive 5% of the world's total biodiversity.

The Costa Rica tourism industry is the number one industry in this tiny country of fewer than 5 million people.

Eco tours and Costa Rica tourism are flourishing and no wonder considering the abundance of tropical beaches, virgin rainforests, cloud forests, national parks, biological reserves and wildlife refuges!

Costa Rica Tourism History

There's a reason why Istmo Magazine listed Costa Rica as one of the world's highest ranked international vacation destinations.

In fact, the World Economical Forum recently awarded the Costa Rica tourism industry first place in tourism competitiveness for all of Latin America. As well, Yale University ranked Costa Rica #1 in Latin America and #3 worldwide (out of 163 countries) for environmental performance in 2010.

Since the 1940s, Costa Rica's conservation agenda has included a "green" policy, creating a system of protected areas that includes natural wildlife refuges, forestry and biological reserves, plus numerous protected national parks including Leatherback Turtles National Park (with its famous turtle nesting beaches).

Considered a safe country with a love for democracy and peace, the Costa Rican culture reflects a strong Spanish and European influence, and Caravan tour guests are always greeted with great people and great hospitality.

Thanks to the efforts of the Costa Rica tourism board and the steady growth of tourism in Costa Rica, this tiny country is recognized internationally for having made continual progress in the area of ecotourism travel.

Costa Rica Tourism Facts

Given the reputation that Costa Rica has gained as a priority destination in the tourism sector, the success of Costa Rica tourism is not surprising when you consider that nearly 25% of Costa Rica's natural Pacific and Caribbean shorelines, plus mountains and valleys are now protected and preserved for all to enjoy.

The Costa Rican government has prioritized the development of management and conservation measures aimed at achieving sustainable growth for the future of tourism in Costa Rica.

The distance between the Caribbean Sea and Costa Rica's Pacific Ocean beaches is less than 200 miles yet Costa Rica's landscape offers an impressive variety in terrain and climate between its 7 provinces.

From pristine sandy white beaches to the rolling hills of coffee and pineapple plantations, plus tropical rainforests, impressive mountain ranges, and majestic volcanoes - the scenery in Costa Rica is truly quite spectacular.

Costa Rica is a natural haven for environmentally conscious tourists looking for Costa Rica tourism packages. In Costa Rica there are:

  • Over 8,000 species of tropical plants
  • More than 1500 varieties of orchids
  • Over 850 types of birds (more than all of North America)
  • More butterfly species than in all of Africa (over 3000)
  • Nesting beaches for giant leatherback turtles and hawksbill turtles

Costa Rica Tourism Statistics

Costa Rica tourism has enjoyed a 7.1% annual growth rate in recent years. Because of this some of the biggest hotel chains have set up world class tourism operations in Costa Rica including the Barceló and Sol Meliá, Holiday Inn, Four Seasons and Marriott, among others.

In fact, the annual growth rate for hotel rooms in Costa Rica is 4.5%, which is fueled by the fact that almost half of the Costa Rica tour guests come from the United States.

Caravan Tours has had a large influence on the development of several high-end, luxury Costa Rica hotels including the J.W. Marriot Resort and Spa in Guanacaste.

Clothing Tips

This is a casual tour. Casual wear is suggested for sightseeing and daytime travelling. Dress code for evenings is casual. Suit jackets for men and dresses for women are never required on the Caravan’s Costa Rica tour. It is recommended to wear drip-dry clothing (such as that offered by Columbia, ExOfficio and Travelsmith) in the rainforest. Shirts with long sleeves and long pants are recommended for rain forest and cloud forest hikes. Pants that zip at the knee to convert into shorts are very comfortable in the rainforest.  See Travel Planner: General Clothing Tips

“This was the best vacation I had. It is the only way to see Costa Rica.”

Ms. P.H., Plano, Texas

“We had the perfect tour director, very knowledgeable of Costa Rican history, local cultures, and coconuts. Caravan, you should be proud! Besides the fact that you guys do a great job staging all of the sights, wildlife and timing (it was all fake right?!),it was obvious to us that the guides, the hotel staffs, the tour director, the restaurant personnel, etc. All seemed to rise to the occasion for a Caravan tour. You guys are doing something right. Keep it up!”

Mr. & Mrs. M.G., Pleasant Hill, California

“The local guides were good at Tortuguero and the rain forest and wildlife park, especially seeing Blondie, the orange colored Howler. The trip was well conducted and we saw a lot of Costa Rica.”

Mr. A.S., San Diego, California

“I liked the diversity of the trip. It was well planned with nice accommodations. It was a pleasant experience, would recommend tour.”

Mr. & Mrs. S.S., Hopatcong, New Jersey

“I very much appreciate the professional manner that we were treated. I am a travel agent, and working in this industry can sometimes be a thankless job, therefore when I am treated with respect, I try to acknowledge. We are truly grateful to Caravan and our tour director for being so accommodating. I can guarantee you that I will be selling Caravan tours enthusiastically in the future! Our tour director’s knowledge and passion for his country is so evident by the way he describes customs, culture, education, wildlife among many other things. All of the sightseeing, I loved every minute of it, great activities and some free time.”

Mr. & Mrs. J.C., Caledonia, Michigan

“There was so much food. I got a good idea of foods of Costa Rica. There was variety and lots of bottled water! There was great diversity in visiting different parts of country with attractions, just enough shopping opportunities. The tour director was the sweetest person I ever met. She was always smiling, had great English, always available, very knowledgeable on history, vegetation and country of Costa Rica. She kept things moving, always left on time, very respectful of everyone on tour. She was conservation and safety conscious, had good sense of humor and very accommodating.”

Ms. J.M., Abington, Pennsylvania

“The hotels were excellent, especially the one at Tortuguero. I’d like to spend a week there! The tour director was wonderful! Excellent! I can’t say enough about him. He was so knowledgeable about the plants and animals. He was an added bonus to the trip!”

Ms. J.L., Asheboro, North Carolina

“The hotels were an outstanding value. Each was clean, comfortable and had a special charm of its own. The meals were ample, excellent choices wide enough to satisfy a picky eater like me. It ranged from excellent to superb. Mexico’s Ancient Civilizations last year rated ten out of ten with our tour director. This tour director made Costa Rica fifteen out of ten. I will schedule Tikal, Copan sometime next year.”

Mr. C.G., Las Vegas,, Nevada

“My family and friends could not believe how wonderful the accommodations were. Everywhere we stayed the staff was nice and treated us very professionally. At Tortuguero, the staff treated us from the minute we arrived to the second we left as family. I cannot wait to take another Caravan tour, and tell all my friends about this one. Please do not change a thing, you have got it right.”

Mr. & Mrs. L.W., Hot Springs, Arkansas

Caravan’s Proud History

Caravan Tours began selling fully escorted tours in 1952. We have been under the same management and ownership ever since. In 1965, Roger Mudd hosted a two hour CBS TV special on Caravan Tours. This TV production took about one month to make and was so successful it inspired the 1968 romantic comedy movie “If it’s Tuesday this must be Belgium.” In the early 50’s the Mayor of Dublin presented Caravan with the Key to Dublin for bringing the first American tour to the city after WWII. Since then Caravan has been recognized as a pioneer in travel.

Great Value, Book Early

Caravan’s strong buying power gives you great vacations at prices much lower than you can find anywhere. Last year many of our tours sold out quickly. Book early for the date you prefer and the best air fare.

How does Caravan Tours sell these tours for such a low cost?

Caravan delivers volume to our suppliers, who in turn reward us with their very best prices, we in turn pass these savings on to you, and you reward us by buying our tours. As volume continues to rise, we then receive even better prices from our suppliers, and we pass even greater savings on to you. This year our tours are better than ever.

How satisfied are Caravan clients?

The short answer is “very.” Our surveys are uniformly very positive. However we continually strive to improve our tours, (they are often updated several times in the course of one year), we study all client surveys and suggestions for improvement very carefully.

Pitch-Free Travel

Caravan includes all activities listed in the tour itinerary page. Caravan does not sell any optional activities which can add hundreds of dollars to your tour price. Your free time is scheduled in great settings where there is no need to buy additional expensive activities.
