Day 1 • Guatemala City, Guatemala

Caravan welcomes you to a breathtaking adventure through Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador. Begin in Guatemala, the “Land of Eternal Spring,” your gateway to the Maya wonders of Copán and the natural beauty of El Salvador. Fly into La Aurora International Airport (GUA) in Guatemala City. Transfer on your own using the official airport taxi service. Enjoy a two-night stay at your Guatemala City hotel. Rooms are available for check-in after 4:00 p.m. Dinner is on your own.

Maya Sculpture Museum

Day 2 • Maya Archaeology Museum

Meet your Tour Director for an 8:00 a.m. welcome briefing. Visit the Maya Archaeology Museum and see an impressive collection of ancient Maya sculptures, ceramics, and carvings. Continue to the elegant pedestrian village of Cayalá. Lunch is on your own. The afternoon is at leisure. Enjoy dinner.

Day 3 • Guatemala City, Copán, Honduras

Travel through the Guatemalan countryside and cross the border into Honduras. Continue through the scenic highlands to Copán Ruinas. Lunch is on your own. Arrive at your hotel in Copán, gateway to the magnificent Copán Ruins, for a relaxing three-night stay. Enjoy dinner.

Day 4 • Copán Ruins, Tunnels, Maya Sculpture Museum

This morning, visit the magnificent Maya ruins of Copán, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. See the Great Plaza, ball court, temples, and famous Hieroglyphic Stairway. Then, enter the mysterious underground Maya tunnels of Copán. Walk through the Jaguar Tunnel and Rosalila Tunnel. Lunch is on your own. This afternoon, visit the Maya Sculpture Museum and see its impressive collection of Maya carvings and a full-scale reconstruction of the Rosalila Temple. Enjoy dinner.

Day 5 • Las Sepulturas, Copán

Visit Las Sepulturas, an important residential area of ancient Copán where Maya nobles once lived. Next, enjoy free time to explore the charming town of Copán Ruinas. Lunch is on your own. The remainder of the afternoon is at your leisure. Enjoy dinner.

Day 6 • Esquipulas, El Salvador

Depart Copán and cross the border into El Salvador, enjoying a scenic drive through the picturesque countryside. Stop at the Basilica of Esquipulas, Central America’s most important pilgrimage site. Lunch is on your own. Continue to San Salvador, the vibrant capital of El Salvador, for a relaxing three-night stay. Enjoy dinner.

Day 7 • Joya de Cerén, San Salvador

Morning visit to Joya de Cerén, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This ancient Maya farming village was preserved beneath volcanic ash and is known as the “Pompeii of the Americas.” Return to San Salvador. Then, enjoy free time at the artisan market. Lunch is on your own. Next, a guided city tour of San Salvador. Visit the historic center and see the Metropolitan Cathedral, National Palace, Plaza Libertad, and the impressive National Library. The remainder of the afternoon is at leisure.

Day 8 • Costa del Sol, Jaltepeque Estuary Boat Tour

Morning drive to Costa del Sol on the Pacific Ocean. Enjoy a scenic boat tour through the Jaltepeque Estuary, where calm waterways are bordered by lush mangrove forests. Cruise among the mangroves and look for tropical birds and wildlife. Enjoy lunch. Return to San Salvador. Enjoy dinner.

Day 9 • San Salvador

Your tour ends this morning at your hotel in San Salvador. Breakfast is included only after 6:30 a.m. Caravan provides departure transfers from your hotel to El Salvador International Airport (SAL), arriving at the airport at approximately 5:30 a.m., 8:00 a.m., and 11:00 a.m. If you wish to depart at another time or extend your stay in El Salvador, you will need to transfer on your own at your own expense. Arrival Transfers

Transfer on your own from La Aurora International Airport (GUA) to your hotel, the Westin Camino Real Guatemala City (Avenida La Reforma y 14 Calle, Zona 10) in Guatemala City. Once you have exited customs and collected your baggage at the airport, proceed to the sidewalk outside of the main entrance. There, you will see white cars with the words "AirporTaxi Guatemala" on the rear passenger side door. This is the signage for the official taxi service of La Aurora International Airport. You can request your taxi here. The driving time from the airport to the hotel is approximately 10-20 minutes, depending on traffic. The cost will range from $10-$15 US Dollars plus tip. Payment is accepted in US dollars or Guatemala Quetzales, credit cards are not accepted. A currency exchange and ATMs are located inside the airport. When you arrive at your hotel, please identify yourself as a Caravan tour member to the front desk personnel.

Departure Transfers

Caravan includes a departure transfer from the Real InterContinental San Salvador - Metrocenter Mall in San Salvador to El Salvador International Airport (SAL) in San Salvador, El Salvador arriving at 5:30 a.m., 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. on the day the tour ends. If you wish to leave at another time, you will need to transfer on your own, at your own expense. Taxi fares from your hotel to El Salvador International Airport cost about $50-$60 USD. The driving time from the hotel to the airport is approximately 45-60 minutes, depending on traffic.

To enter El Salvador and Honduras, you will need a U.S. passport valid for 6 additional months after the date of your arrival into El Salvador. Non U.S. citizens, please check passport and visa requirements. Note: If you are travelling with children under 18 years old without both parents or legal guardians, you should carry a notarized letter of authorization signed by the missing parent(s) or guardian(s). A notarized birth certificate showing only one parent, a parent’s death certificate, or a court order of child custody may also be permissible. Failure to have proper documentation could result in denial of boarding by the airline, due to international child protection laws.
