Peggy’s Cove Nova Scotia
Travel to Nova Scotia Canada with Caravan Tours and as part of your Maritime Provinces tour you’ll also have a chance to visit the world famous Peggy’s Point Lighthouse in the small fishing village of Peggy’s Cove.
Peggy’s Cove is a small gathering of homes and businesses on the eastern side of St. Margaret’s Bay in what is now the Halifax Municipality. Located on the perimeter of Chebucto Peninsula, Peggy’s Cove is one of many small communities in Nova Scotia that still rely on fishing. In recent years, it has also gained a wonderful reputation as a unique artist’s colony.

Peggy’s Point Lighthouse
Although Peggy’s Point Lighthouse, which overlooks St. Margaret’s Bay, is just one of 160 historic lighthouses in Nova Scotia, it is believed to be Canada’s most photographed and most recognizable lighthouse. Established in 1868 and rebuilt in 1915, Peggy’s Point Lighthouse and Peggy’s Cove are just an hour’s drive from Halifax, the capital of Nova Scotia. The locals like to refer to this area as “Mother Nature’s Playground,” and for good reason. Like Peggy’s Cove, there is no shortage of hidden harbours and scenic coves to explore in this part of Nova Scotia.
Geography of Peggy’s Cove
Perched along a narrow inlet, the houses of this well-preserved, wind swept active fishing community are forced to face the rigors of the Atlantic Ocean head-on. Waves explode over this rugged shoreline as they have for centuries, but that didn’t prevent early settlers from farming the area’s fertile soil and eventually, pasturing cattle.
Smooth, giant rocks have been repetitively scrubbed and positioned by the sea providing perfect seating arrangements for capturing the scenic waves and lobster fishing boats as they bustle back and forth with the rhythm of the tide.
Community of Peggy’s Cove
Set on the fringes of Nova Scotia’s Bluenose Coast, Peggy’s Cove has a thriving core of restaurant’s, art’s, crafts, and gallery locations, as well as a Mi’kmaq heritage center informing the history of indigenous peoples in the area.
Interspersed among historically significant fishing shacks in Peggy’s Cove you’ll find plenty of fine east coast restaurants that offer a variety of seafood delicacies such as mussels, haddock, and cod. This area is also famous for its lobster!
A visit to Peggy’s Cove wouldn’t be complete without thoroughly savouring a taste of the town’s Atlantic heritage. Whether a seaside restaurant or a shoreline picture postcard view, Peggy’s Cove serve’s up a generous helping of Eastern Canadian hospitality that you won’t find anywhere else in the world.
