Sculpted during the Glacier Age, this rugged landscape still has fifty active glaciers. Glacier National Park was established in 1910. Then in 1932, Glacier Park combined with Waterton Lakes Park in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies of Alberta, Canada to become the world’s first International Peace Park. Comprised of 1.4 million acres, Glacier Park is one of the country’s largest intact ecosystems. Read more of the park’s history here.
Banff National Park in the eastern slopes of the Canadian Rockies is Canada’s oldest and most visited national park. With the discovery of the Cave and Basin Hot Springs in the Canadian Rocky Mountains, Banff became the world’s third National Park in 1885. The alpine village of Banff Alberta is only 35 miles (56 km) down the Trans-Canada Highway from the Victoria Glacier-fed turquoise waters of Lake Louise.
Jasper is the largest wilderness park in the Canadian Rockies with over 4,200 square miles of mountain wilderness. Jasper National Park was established in 1907 as Canada’s sixth national park and is home to the world-famous Columbia Icefield.

Known as Canada’s “Diamond in the Wilderness,” Lake Louise is perhaps the best known and most admired lake in the Canadian Rockies. Glacier fed from snow-covered Mount Victoria, the turquoise-colored lake is only 3 miles up the mountain from Lake Louise resort and village.
Weather permitting, you’ll enjoy a snow coach ride on the Athabasca Glacier, one of the six glaciers that make up the Columbia Icefield. Athabasca Glacier is one of the only glaciers in the world accessible by road. At its thickest Athabasca Glacier is nearly 3000 feet (900 metres) thick and is the single largest glacier in all the Canadian Rockies.
