Enjoying a Bryce Canyon National Park Tour

A Bryce Canyon National Park tour takes visitors through the natural landscapes of Utah’s desert, appreciating unique geological landmarks and stunning viewpoints. Home to the world’s largest collection of “hoodoos”, these rock formations tell stories of millions of years of ancient history, formed by natural erosion of lime and sandstone rock, creating picturesque formations that resemble chimneys.

Aside from the stunning views of the parks and Utah’s natural landscapes, the park is home to unique amphitheaters, or natural rock formations that house these hoodoos, with 14 in total to explore. The result is an outdoor adventurer’s paradise loaded with viewpoints and hiking trails that can make your trip one that you will remember for a lifetime.

When To Visit Bryce Canyon National Park

Each season brings its own unique benefits of visiting; choose one that best suits your needs.

  • Spring: The park remains beautiful all year-round, but the blooming wildlife and flowers make Spring a compelling option for those who wish to avoid the crowds of summer, and instead enjoy a quieter and more tranquil experience. Depending on when you visit, you could experience some cooler temperatures or even snow, but April and May strike a balance of cool temperatures and emerging wildlife.

  • Summer: Hot and dry temperatures can, at times, make your experience a bit warmer than you like, but the summer sunrises and sunsets are stellar this time of year. As the peak of travel season, expect larger crowds, but trails that are still worth exploring. The longer days also make for colorful landscapes that reflect off the warm colors of the park’s peaks and valleys.

  • Fall: Considered by many as the best time to visit, months like September and October are exceptionally comfortable weather-wise, offering a quieter travel experience, especially throughout the park’s more popular viewpoints and hiking trails. Avoid large crowds by coming at this time of year, and feel the cool energy that comes with Fall travel.

  • Winter: There is a certain beauty that comes with visiting Bryce Canyon during the winter months. A gentle snowfall in one of the park’s many amphitheaters makes for a uniquely beautiful viewing experience. With fewer crowds and colder weather, many visitors will find that the park is exceptionally quiet and beautiful. Of course, colder weather isn’t ideal for everyone, and some trails may be subject to closure due to icy conditions.

Must-See Attractions of Bryce Canyon National Park

The Bryce Amphitheater remains the central attraction of visiting the Bryce Canyon National Park, standing as the hub of various activities, including hiking and viewpoints.

Visitors should make a point of visiting the park’s most well-known viewpoints, including Sunrise Point & Sunset Point, Inspiration Point, and Bryce Point. These spots remain easily accessible for most travelers and offer stunning views that are often best complemented by an early morning sunrise or late evening sunset.

Those who want to take in the park via hiking trail should consider their options, with many reporting that the Navajo Loop, Peek-a-Boo Loop, Rim Trail, and Mossy Cave Trail are some of the very best options. Choose hikes within your natural abilities, and if you are unsure if a hike is right for you, always speak with a tour guide or park ranger.

With the park’s elevation and incredibly clear skies, it stands as a popular option for stargazing. In fact, many visitors book accommodations that overlook the park and make a point of taking in late-night stargazing. With very little light pollution, taking in the skies late at night is great on your own, or even experienced with a guided tour. Watch as the sky lights up and see the Milky Way in some of the nation’s darkest skies.

The Best Time of Year To Visit Bryce National Park For Stargazing

For those visiting Bryce National Park specifically for stargazing, the months of June, July, and August are often reported as the best time of year to visit. These months are known to have very little moonlight and other light pollution, offering the clearest and most panoramic views of the skyline. Many visitors visit the park during the yearly Astronomy Festival in June, where the park offers many different astronomy-focused and ranger-led programs.
