Guatemala Mayan Tikal Ruins Tour
Along with the ancient 2,700-year-old Mayan pyramids of the Tikal ruins, your fully guided Caravan Guatemala Tour includes 5 Mayan temples, the Great Plaza, and the lost city of El Mundo Perdido.
Archaeologists believe that ancient Tikal is the largest known Mayan city that flourished for over 1500 years and dates to 700 B.C.
Tikal is distinctly different from Mexico’s Chichen Itza and Uxmal (two other ancient Mayan sites), mainly because the Tikal ruins are surrounded by dense jungle.

Tikal History
On the strength of its military and active trade economy, the Mayan city of Tikal prospered and at its height boasted an estimated population of perhaps 100,000 Mayan people or more.
Then mysteriously, around 900 AD, this ancient Mayan city was virtually deserted and over the ensuing centuries, the Guatemalan jungle overran its magnificent temples and other ancient Mayan Tikal structures.
In the 1840s the lost Mayan ruins of Tikal were found by European explorers and have since become one of the world’s busiest and most important Mayan archaeological research sites.
Many of the Tikal ruins remain unexplored. Who knows what secrets are left to be excavated, and what else we will learn about this ancient and amazing Mayan culture of Guatemala?
