White Mountains National Forest
The White Mountains National Forest (WMNF) contains more than 750,000 acres of federally managed forest located in New Hampshire and Maine. With more than 1,200 miles of hiking trails and 23 campgrounds, the White Mountains National Forest is one of the most popular and highly visited recreation sites east of the Mississippi.

- Only 5% of the White Mountains National Forest is in Maine, the rest is in New Hampshire.
- This is the only national forest in New Hampshire and Maine.
- In addition to its recreational activities in the park, White Mountains National Forest is also used for logging and other limited commercial activities.
- There are 12,000 miles of hiking trails and 23 campgrounds in the park.
- Over 100 miles of the famous Appalachian Trail is also located in the White Mountains National Forest.

Mount Washington, New Hampshire
White Mountains National Forest is home to the Northeast’s highest mountain, Mount Washington. At over 6,200 feet tall, this mountain is famous for unpredictable weather. In 1934, a wind speed of 231 miles per hour was recorded.
To this day Mount Washington still holds the world record for the highest wind speed recorded not related to a tropical cyclone.
Woodstock, New Hampshire
Located in Grafton County in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, Woodstock received its name in honor of Blenheim Palace in Woodstock, England in 1840. This was right about the time that logging became its main industry.
Thanks to the beauty of the White Mountains, tourism was also a major industry and by the early 1900s, this little town, which currently has a population of only 1,434, would host as many as 2,500 tourists each summer.
The setting is pristine and unrivaled with a backdrop of over 700,000 acres of protected Forest and the magnificent Mount Washington nearby.

This TV production took about one month to make and was so successful it inspired the 1968 romantic comedy movie “If it’s Tuesday this must be Belgium.” In the early 50’s the Mayor of Dublin presented Caravan with the Key to Dublin for bringing the first American tour to the city after WWII.
