Why You Should Visit Sacred Valley Peru

Welcome to the heart of Peru!

As a truly unforgettable travel destination, Sacred Valley Peru takes visitors across both natural landscapes and small communities, revealing the depth and charm of ancient cultures frozen in time. There really isn’t an adventure travel destination quite like this, as this is the home for rich cultural experiences that get you experiencing up close with both natural and ancient Peruvian heritage.

Sitting between both Cusco and Machu Picchu, here travelers take in stunning views of the Andes Mountains but also explore the historical, ancient ruins and tiny villages that are unforgettable. The country’s natural beauty remains on full display here, calling upon adventure travelers to hike and bike through scenic Peruvian landscapes, but also connect with ancient cultures.

Must-See Destinations in the Sacred Valley

The Sacred Valley may be the ultimate outdoor travel destination for North Americans looking to experience all that South America has to offer. The endless stops include towns and attractions, including Arin Falls, Ollantaytambo, Moray’s circular terraces, and Maras saltpans. Many tours include stops at small villages and special attractions.

Consider planning a trip that also includes visiting the stunning city of Cusco! Food, shopping, and entertainment await visitors from all over the world here, worth a visit just for its chocolate-making seminars!

Outdoor Adventures and Beautiful Natural Wonders

Aura is just one way to describe the breathtaking mountain scenery throughout this area. When natural beauty and fun meet, this is an adventure travel destination that must be experienced.

There are endless opportunities to hike, bike, or raft, alongside the backdrop of stunning mountain views and wildlife that is unique to the area. An adventure traveler’s paradise, but also offering hiking and trails suitable for travelers of different skill levels. Touring the area can include an incredible amount of different options, helping you enjoy the experience at any pace you please.

Life Among the Weavers and Farmers

Trail hikes often include stops at small villages where locals are happy to serve guests with delicious food options that showcase the very best of ancient Peruvian culture. See how ancient Peruvian cultures live amongst mountaintops, and experience their local daily life, first-hand, alongside your tour of the Sacred Valley. Of course, browse their selection of handwoven textiles, observe ancient farming styles, and wander through village markets where Andean culture lives and thrives. Many locals are proud of their craftsmanship, offering one-of-a-kind souvenirs.

Planning Your Visit to the Sacred Valley

Visiting places like Cusco, or Lima, Peru affords travelers with unique opportunities, including an incredibly long list of day-trips, ruins worth visiting, hiking, and general adventure travel (think biking and rafting).

Further, it’s important to remember that visiting these areas includes high altitudes, which may be challenging for some, especially if you have never experienced high altitudes before. From a practical perspective, prepare for these types of outdoor adventures accordingly, and take time to adjust to the higher altitudes.

Altitude sickness is a real possibility when you arrive, especially in places like Cusco. Travelers will likely need to take a couple of days to properly acclimatize. Plan this into your trip and prepare to not partake in any high-exertion, physical activities upon your arrival. Take your time and stay well hydrated throughout any kind of activity in Peru.

Typically, the best times to visit the Sacred Valley are from late Spring to early Fall, when the climate is considered to be most comfortable. June, July, and August are considered the high-traffic travel months for the area. Depending on what you wish to experience or how long your guide may be, tourists often book anywhere from 3 days to a full week for the Sacred Valley.

Many hikes and treks do call for travelers to be mobile and have some level of cardiovascular strength. Inexperienced hikers should exercise caution or prepare themselves by completing hikes locally before visiting. Know your physical limits and consider that not all hikes are intended for travelers. Should you ever be unsure, consider taking on a guided walking tour that is within your abilities.

Just like any exotic travel destination, prepare yourself with comfortable shoes, clean clothes, sunglasses, and a camera!

Truly, the valley is a must-see destination for anyone visiting Peru. Even travelers who are not experienced with hiking or adventure travel will find options, including fully-guided tours or even horseback riding experiences. The stunning visuals of nature here are something that needs to be experienced for yourself.

Carefully plan your trip before you arrive!
